Ruti Sela
Ruti Sela graduated with honor from Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design and studied for a Master’s Degree in Film at Tel Aviv University.
Her works were exhibited at the Istanbul Biennale, Berlin Biennale and the Sydney Biennale, the Manifesta 8 in Murcia, Spain, and at museums such as Jeu de Paume and Centre Pompidou, Paris, ZKM museum in Karlsruhe, Germany, MUMOK Vienna, the Tate Modern in London. She had a solo exhibition at the Bat Yam Museum in Israel and Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam.
She has won several awards, including the Anselm Kiefer Award from the Wolf Foundation, the Young Artist Award, the Creativity Encouragement Award, and the Senior Video Artist Award from the Israeli Ministry of Education.
In 2009 she initiated with Maayan Amir “The Exterritory Project”, for which they won an honorary award for young artists from UNESCO. She and Amir co-edited the book Extraterritorialities in Occupied Worlds, published by Punctum, New York in 2016.
A book about Sela’s work was published in 2012 as part of the Steirischer Herbst Festival in Austria.
A compendium of articles about Sela’s work was published by Archive Books in Amsterdam and Berlin in 2015.
