ד"ר אורלי חיים עוסקת בהכשרת מורים ופרחי הוראה בתחום הוראת אנגלית כשפה זרה. היא עובדת כמרצה וכמדריכה פדגוגית במסלול לאנגלית במכללה האקדמית בית ברל. ד"ר חיים היא יו"ר מועצת הפקולטה לחינוך במכללה האקדמית בית ברל. בעבר הייתה ראש המסלול לאנגלית במכללה האקדמית בית ברל.
ד"ר חיים עבדה שנים רבות כמדריכת מורים לאנגלית מטעם משרד החינוך. כיום אורלי הינה יו"ר ועדת מקצוע להוראת אנגלית במשרד החינוך. תחומי המחקר העיקריים שלה מתמקדים ברכישת שפה, דו/רב לשוניות, חינוך לשוני, שפה והגירה, ידע וחשיבת מורים.
