Adiel Cohen, Dr.
Lecturer at the Department of Biblical and Jewish Studies
Dr. Adiel Cohen is a lecturer in Biblical studies at Beit Berl College and Shaanan College. He also teaches Talmud at Midreshet Lindenbaum in Jerusalem and was ordained as a rabbi by the Israel Chief Rabbinate. His MA thesis discussed the different descriptions in the Bible of the characteristics of God (Numbers 34:6-7). His PhD thesis, supervised by Prof. Ed Greenstein, discussed the biblical creation traditions embedded in the Books of Job, Proverbs, and the Psalms in light of creation models from the Ancient East and the creation stories in Genesis.
Two books authored by Dr. Cohen are due to be published shortly: A book based on his PhD thesis, to be published by Resling, and the first scientific and scholastic commentary on tractate Bava Batra (together with Hannah Dreyfus). His fields of interest are Biblical prose, Maimonides’ commentary on the Torah, and the Talmudic literature. He is also interested in the interfaces between the Bible and culture in modern Hebrew literature and in film.
